I've been captivated by the idea of India since childhood. While other kids had lunch boxes adorned with cartoons or superheroes, mine looked like a suitcase. It featured travel stickers from all over the world including the image of the Taj Mahal. While the idea of visiting that majestic monument was certainly intriguing, it was the notion of seeing tigers in the wild that really got me excited. I had no idea that visiting India would prove to be a transformational experience for me, and lead me to where I am today; launching Soul Safari India.
After my first trip to this mystical land, I took my Yoga teacher training. My second visit made me realize that I wanted to delve deeper into breathwork and meditation in order give my students more tools to help them lead happier lives. These were wonderful gifts from Mother India, but there was one I didn't receive on either journey; the thrill of seeing a tiger in the wild.
Fast forward a few years, and I'm leading one of my first Soul Safaris in South Africa. My wonderful companions were talking about their next adventure: a Safari in India. I told them about my dream and they offered to introduce me to their tour leader if they felt that we would have a good connection.
A few months later I turned on my computer and a new screen saver popped up- a stunning photo of a tiger. When I opened my email I was stunned to see the email introducing me to Suyash Keshari- passionate conservationist, wildlife photographer, filmmaker, media personality ,big cat tracker and Safari leader. I was so excited I could hardly type as I wrote to him, telling him about the screen saver. Surely it was an auspicious sign? He wrote back immediately saying "you have no idea how auspicious- I know that tiger and that was taken in the park where we'll be doing Soul Safari India!"
Within a week our itinerary was set, and a few months later our first group was coming together. Then Covid hit.
Over the last few years our friendship has grown. I can say without hesitation Suyash is one of the most caring, charismatic and committed people I've had the privilege of having in my life. We've stayed positive and convinced that the dream of Soul Safari India was merely delayed, not denied.
Finally, the time has come.
We are thrilled to launch our first Soul Safari March 4-12, 2023. Want to come with us? I will warn you though, there will be lots of happy tears from me. First when I finally get to meet my friend in person, and then every time we see a tiger.
