The three words you long to hear while on Safari in India- tiger, tiger, tiger!
When you spot one yourself, you'll understand. You can't just say it once to convey the appropriate level of excitement.
I've been home from India for almost a month now, and I'm still basking in the glow of seeing a dream magnificently realized. After three years of uncertainty and patience ( well, most of the time) the Safari I had planned with Suyash and his team finally happened in March and it exceeded my expectations in every way. As predicted in a previous blog, I cried when I finally got to meet my Safari family in person. After connecting virtually for so long, it was quite surreal to find myself in a big group hug with Suyash, Sujatro and Tarini. When the manager of King's Lodge said "welcome home" it confirmed the feeling of absolute joy and belonging I felt in my heart.
I didn't sleep for one second that first night. It was "Tiger Eve" and I felt like my body couldn't physically contain the excitement. We entered the Bandhavgarh Tala Zone gate at 6 am, and less than half an hour later Suyash exclaimed "tiger, tiger, tiger!" In this case he was literally right- my first ever sighting of a tiger in the wild was in fact three playful cubs chasing each other in the grass. Once again, as predicted the tears flowed. Luckily I'd had the foresight to ask others to take photos for me as the crying and shaking would have made for lousy shots. Eventually I pulled myself together just in time to get a photo as one cub pounced narrowly missing another as he high tailed it into the tall grass. I knew it would be an emotional moment, but I had no idea how truly magical it would be. Awesome, in the truest sense of the word.
This was just the beginning of a trip that was a life highlight for me. I couldn't have asked for better travel companions, so a heartfelt thank you to each of the wonderful souls who put their faith in us and joined in the incredible journey that was the first Soul Safari India. Can't wait for the next!
